Launcher Issues
Firstly, check for your issue on the official tech support website, as it most likely more up to date than this page: http://tech-support.townshiptale.com/en/knowledgebase/7-launcher
As of 0.0.30.0, many users are experiencing issues installing/updating via the launcher. Installing may get stuck mid-process, or ask for permission then do nothing, or other issues. Alta will fix this (after which let's delete this page), but in the meantime try some workarounds. If you find a solution that works for you, please update this wiki page with what worked!
Javascript Error
The Javascript Error usually occurs when an Antivirus Software (Like Windows Defender) is blocking certain files from installing. To fix this issue, you must disable your Antivirus and then repair/reinstall your game.
Grey Screen Error
On Launch, some players may get an infinite Grey Screen. This usually occurs when the game has not been installed correctly, the reason for this might be antivirus blocking parts of the download.
To fix this issue, a Player must:
- Open their Launcher.
- Click the Cog button.
- Click "Repair".
General Issues
Try
Clicking the Settings icon (the gear icon right of main button) > Repair
Try
Restarting your computer, then running Alta Launcher.
Try
- Right-click the launcher and run as administrator
Try
Disable any anti-virus before attempting to install. They can interfere silently. Disable the anti-virus and run launcher as administrator, per above.
Try
The bazooka approach. Everything above in one:
- Close Launcher
- Hit Windows key+R (the flag and R) This open the "Run" window. Type %appdata% here
- Delete the two folders named "A Township Tale" and "Alta Launcher"
- Uninstall the launcher -> `%localappdata%/programs/alta-launcher/Uninstall Alta Launcher.exe`
- NOTE: Do not try to uninstall manually by deleting folders. This will cause the installer to screw up.
- Restart your PC
- Disable antivirus
- Download the launcher fresh from #getting-started and run as administrator
Try
If you are using an NVIDIA graphics card, go into
NVIDIA Control Panel -> Adjust Desktop Size and position -> Choose "No scaling"
If you have never accessed the NVIDIA Control Panel, you can easily access it by right clicking the desktop or typing "NVIDIA" in your start menu.
This happens because of an old reoccurring Unity bug.
Game Launching but not in headset (Oculus)
Try launching Oculus before launching the game OR try opening dash, opening your monitor, then selecting the game window or highlighting another window and re-selecting the game window (from inside dash)
Controls (SteamVR)
If your controller is not taking inputs - you can't move, can't grab anything - try opening SteamVR first and then launching the game.
Try:
If your launcher closes after clicking install, check the task manager, if you see it there and it has network activity that means it is downloading the game in the background. When finished it will pop back into view.
